Not Out-dated, Just a Little Degenerate
One would be exaggerating
If he claimed that verse which rhymes
Is hopelessly anachronistic,
Not in keeping with these times.
Perhaps it's just that those who try
These days are not so skillful as
The storied bards of years gone by.
Facility's the watchword now,
Paired sounds more dear than making sense,
And, consequently, lardy lines
Fall flat. The reader takes offense,
Concluding that of unrhymed verse
And that which rhymes, the latter's worse.
