Lesson 47

There’s no earthiness in heaven,
so angels look below at us and smile.
If for a while.

And when the sky is at its clearest.
Don’t you think you hear it?
The clamor of their giggles,
and their naughty symphony go,
by and by.

It can hypnotize.

I imagine ancient humans who
lived with no distractions,
looking up at a sky
so free of dust and debris,
and think, maybe they saw those angels
looking back at them with a smile.

What a trip that must have been!
Maybe some lost their minds.
I think I know how it must have been.
I almost plucked out my eyes when
yesterday, sat at the roof,
I looked up at the clearest blue,
and saw what seemed a toothy grin peek through.

It licked it lips, then disappeared,
while the wind carried the faintest trace
of something like a chuckle or a smile.

I was hypnotized.
