feasibility of lifelong friendships

To have tried, with hope in heart,
aimed to be lifelong friends,
more than fleeting faces in a crowd,
more than casual companions.
We reached out, seeking bonds,
threads of loyalty and endearment,
but the ties frayed, unable to hold,
and our efforts fell short.

We faced the truth,
our inability to maintain,
to grow and nurture connections,
left us adrift in shallow waters,
puppy dog alliances,
fleeting and insubstantial,
mocked our intentions.

In the quiet moments,
we reflect on our ineptitudes,
the gaps we couldn't bridge,
the promises we couldn't keep.
We carry the weight of our failures,
the yearning for deeper bonds,
and the reality of our own limitations.

A good poem, evocative of our longing for connections. I've made and lost many friendships, and it is still a mystery to me how any endure, maybe it's a gift?

So true. I like the term "puppy dog alliances" in reference to early friendships.
