BECAUSE I AM A WOMAN TRANSLATED BY ANN WOOD
"BECAUSE I AM A WOMAN"Maria Vergova
I am like this because I am a woman –
changeable, maddeningly different.
Sometimes I am angelically kind,
sometimes I resemble a demon.
Don't reproach me for repeating countless
love words,
and then, colder than ice,
with silence from the cold, burning you.
That today I may explode with anger
and a hundred volcanoes may erupt inside me,
and tomorrow - meek, kind and good -
and lie down next to your manly shoulder.
And for my sake your poor heart
may be broken without mercy and without pity,
and then, with the naivety of a child,
to cry for a sparrow with a wounded wing
You won't understand me, don't blame me!
And others before you have not succeeded.
Through the centuries, how many women
have infused your wild spirit into my blood!
And in the labyrinths of my soul,
when you are irretrievably lost,
don't, don't reproach me for it!
You yourself asked to fall in love with me!
