Autumn wind
An autumn gust of wind brought back memorieslong ago forgotten, as if it blew away a blanket of leaves
that had covered, and hidden, something from my past.
You and I had coffee, I remembered, under the birches in the park.
Dressed in red, you read a book, and then tossed it to the side,
smiling to the sky, where the dying season was fading at last.
I felt the stab of your scent stir my heart, and my world was in full bloom.
I squinted in the pale sun, knowing that fall must always come,
but for now, I felt, a shade of warmth could still be found.
We went to the gallery
you admired strokes of red,
we went to your house
and made love in your bed
Your friends came too, during the evening, bringing wine and cheese,
smiling faces like flowers, their laughter like spring rain,
but in their midst, you and I were one heart, never to separate.
And now I sit, on this bench in the park,
and in the air I can still smell the coffee,
carried to me by a lonely grey wind,
a silent gust of autumn wind.
