Impromptu
Politicos have very large staffs
Consisting of speech writing gurus
Hoping to forestall very large gaffes
They anticipate orating boo-boos
When politicians spout off the top their heads
Slips of the tongue they are prone to
They come up with gaffes not easily shed
Gaffs they'll eventually moan too
Ad libbing ad libs, one needs to think faster
Can't rely on them when speech-ing
To verify that, ask any toastmaster
Or attend a school for speech teaching
At times it's okay to speak off the cuff
As long as you're fast on your feet
A little of that, is more than enough
While a lot might cause you much heat
It's really not wise to come unprepared
Without some cue cards to prompt you
If you want your ideas to be properly aired
It's best not to speak too impromptu
