My 'toonist buddy, who illustrates my poems with 'toons, Don Hunt, challenged me write a poem with the subject "Squirrel"..So, apologies to any of you foolish enough to read it
Squirrel
"You doity rat", a Cagney lineA line most unforgettable
Using a rodent suited Jimmy fine
And that seems most regrettable
Disney, in a similar vein
When helping his company foment
It didn't seem to cause Walt pain
Using Mickey, a well known rodent
The use of rodents may have been
Helpful to Jimmy and Walt
So Don Hunt thinks, to my chagrin
He should too a rodent exalt
A mouse and a rat have already been used
So to rhyme them would be out of the question
An encyclopedia he quickly perused
To locate other rodents to mention
It seems Don will do most anything
To gain some fame, as they did
He needs a rodent happening
To gain his hall of fame bid
So for this, I have been doomed
To take part in his fame seeking crime
I wish he hadn't assumed
I would write this squirreling rhyme
A squirrel has a bushy tail
It's known for this bushy tail feature
This pretty bushy spinal detail
Makes it really a bushy cute creature
Now, that's the finish to this squirrel thing
That Don hopes will gain him some fame
At best, it might make him the Rodent King
And for this, he can assume all the blame
