this is but a detail of that my journey to Kisumu city
to get to it
you must climb a bus early in the morning
you sit in the seat...you give them money
they give you a ticket
the bus get full...the driver enter
you start your journey
slowly slowly
making your way through Nairobi traffic
Machakos Airport to Westlands...one hour
reason being
many vehicle congesting Uhuru Highway
even the traffic policeman...that one...he is not helping
I'm getting late to get over there Kisumu City
finally the agony it is all over
finally we are able to be passing Westlands
even the bus driver...he is now smiling
yeye nabadilisa gear na kukanyaga mafuta
Eldoret Express it is now cruising
at a top speed of eighty kilometres per hour
me I am feeling like I'm flying inside an aeroplane
two and a half hours on...we reach Nakuru
before we got over there...we passed Naivasa Delamere
in Naivasa Delamere...I tasted things that are so rare
like strawberry yoghurt inside of a square box
very thin potatoes packaged in plastic paper
water bottled in a bottle...not from a tap
on my way to Kisumu City
the bus now leaves Nakuru for Kericho
along the way we pass a place they call Mau Summit
over there in Mau Summit the people love their business
selling us carrots...while yelling like parrots
carroti! carro-ti-ti!
carroti! carro-ti-ti!
this is happening on the way to the city
when we get to Mau Summit
we take a turn to the left
this turn we take to the left
leads us to Kericho town
approaching Kericho town the scenery is scenic
but the people at the bus stage wanasema nunua chai
on the way to Kisumu City
so now we leave Kericho and take a turn to the right
this turn we take to the right makes me feel so alright
Kisumu is only but eighty kilometres away
if I was fast asleep...I am very wide awake
anticipating my arrival in the city by the lakeside
Kisumu City here I come!
Kisumu City here I come!
we pass Awasi...Ahero...Nyamasaria
from there Eldoret Express lands at Baghdad Airport
the sunsine is sining very brightly overhead
I disembark from the bus...pick up my luggage
climb a taxi that takes me to my town house in Kondele
having left Nairobi at 7am to be here at 230pm
leaves me fatigued but feeling great to be back in Kisumu City
