This is about love and uses the concept so beautifully expressed by William Blake in His poem 'Jerusalem' I introduce it here, yet there are loves beyond the love of ones country.

I Will End My Days In Indiana by M.A.Meddings

The poem  I  wrote  follows after my introduced poem by William Blake I hope you enjoy both.

Jerusalem

By William Blake

And did those feet in ancient time
Walk upon England's mountains green?
And was the holy Lamb of God
On England's pleasant pastures seen?

And did the Countenance Divine
Shine forth upon our clouded hills?
And was Jerusalem builded here
Among these dark satanic mills?

Bring me my bow of burning gold!
Bring me my arrows of desire!
Bring me my spear! O clouds, unfold!
Bring me my chariot of fire!

I will not cease from mental fight,
Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand,
Till we have built Jerusalem
In England's green and pleasant land.

I will End My Days In Indiana

by M.A.Meddings

I have walked upon Englands Mountains green
And the holy lamb of god I have oftimes  seen
And I countenance Jerusalem amongst the dark satanic mills
When I heard Churchills speeches after Dunkirque I became stiired
Such  that my sword did not sleep in my hand
Rather I would stand with my nation and fight them in the hills
And on the beeches and on the landing grounds
And if it be so, fight them alone
We would never surrender,  never surrender
Yet love of country takes second place to a deeper love
That's why I will end my days in Indiana

For you are the sunshine of my days in all your ways
you are the lightest of evening breezes
Touched with the scent of Jasmine
You are a fragrant flower that I see every hour of my being
You are  my love you are  my passion you are very life itself
Nothing goes beyond you in my heart
You are a part of me you are the love within me
you are my destiny
That's why I will end my days in Indiana

This is very sad, yet also beautiful in ways. I had no idea. I'm given a greater urge to appreciate life while I am within it through the passing of someone I have never met, nor heard of until now, a year after the event. My commiserations go out to you Kathy, and to all members of poetbay who were affected by the death of this wonderful poet. ☾

The painful irony of this last entry in dearly departed Mikes beautiful book of poetry here, is almost more than Tai can bear just now. This past year, I have missed you so much my dear Michael...May your sweet soul rest in peace.

In much loving memory, your most romantic muse lives on

I read this poem in my honor Lit. class oh so many years ago and loved it and still love it now! What a fitting introduction to another beautiful poem. I admire the class and intelligence in your writings. It is so refreshing to see such classic writing style. It hails to the great poets and writer's that we all study and love. Your talent is true. (Your taste in women is also classy and intelligent, my dear aunt Kathy deserves such verses of love! You keep writing about her and you can't go wrong)

Dear Mike what ardent love and devotion you express here.
No, love, except truest of true loves, can be greater than your love for your country! Therefore I concur your love is truely great!
May you live happily ever after in Indiana with your true love!
((Hugs))
Love, Zoya

May every rosebud in your sight bloom for you,
May every stormcloud dissipate in your sight.
May every season be spring or summer for you,
May every moment bring you the promise of delight.

Just something someone sent me...
I wish you love, life and romance all the way in Indiana.

:)

Indiana is by no means all bad... but then I grew up there. Cool poem, and most "fetchingly" titled!

This one made me cry. The power of such love particularly when it is for my sister, is overwhelming. You've made it so beautif ul by encluding Blakes poem. The stories within these poems are wonderful tributes and make the magnitude of your tribute clear. I am looking forward to the day you join our family and make us richer by your addition.

Being a great admirer of William Blake myself I can appreciate this Micheal as I'm sure he would, when he worked for his patron Hayley in Feltham he often thought his work belittled and the locals thought him mad, how times change, and yours is a wonderful poem as you say of a deeper love,Bravo Micheal.
