Celebration
Did celebrations earn popularity,
'Cause the world we live in is straight?
Do we find release in jocularity
'Cause it helps us to compensate ?
Some seek to untie their straight knot
Drinking until they're stewed
Some celebrate by smoking pot
Others fill up on food
We act hale and hearty
Escaping to partying scenes
Is our need to party
Rigidly set in our genes?
The festivities on Thanksgiving Day
A concept to me quite murky
It surely is a most roundabout way
For gorging oneself on turkey
We imbibe at the birth of a child
Or when a friend on a cruise is vamoosing
Celebrations, contrastingly mild
Compared to most celebration-al boozing
Celebrating most any thing
We drink and end up plum dumb
We party to escape lifes' stings
Fleeing from things too hum-drum
This sounds like a doctrine of sadness
Just a put-down of lifes celebrations
But, celebrations have given much gladness
Not withstanding this sad dissertation
