AN AMERICAN COUSIN CAME TO VISIT
When I were a child me and me mates,Played endless games of football,
Two mates happened to be black,
Something to do with the U S,
AirForce , years before,
When they were at Manston
Air base , Near us,
We , just shrugged ,
Got on with our game ,
Then Steve's and Darren's ,
Cousean came over from America ,
All we were consernd with ,
''Whats on telly in America , mate ?''
Invited the lad too play football with us ,
The lad keep picking the ball up , and running ,
With it , no matter how many times we explained ,
The game , how it were plaid
''Kick it , kick the ball mate'' , gees , he were up picking
The ball , how in good humor laughed
If only we had herd of rugby!!!!
As I look back too then
I cant but wonder as I look back
Just what he took back with him
Being treated as an American
Not as a '' Negro American ''or even black ,
AND NEVER NEVER the 'N' ,word ,
''Afro American'' had then been seen as needed
Not just by us kids , our mum's and dads as well
Just what a shock it must have been fore our American chum
Then back too the States , from all of that
Too goo back too all of that
In the States , of 1963
Did he march with Martin?
Or did he join Malcolm X?
Maybe Angler Davies?
.
I cant help wondering, now
As I look back over the years.
