Flames of Melancholy (II)

oh melancholy, melancholy
let me burn amongst your flames
draw me deep into your fiery well
release me from despair
take my soul, my spirit, forgotten heart
embrace me in the fire
hold me fast before the hottest flame
and burn until no more
throw my ashes to the bitter wind
to drift with lonely clouds
raise me to the dark and empty night
release me from this day
oh melancholy, melancholy
let me burn amongst your flames
for what is life without a love
without a life to share
without another's heart to hold
without a soul to care
oh melancholy, melancholy
let me burn amongst your flames
draw me deep into your fiery well
release me from despair.

This has such drama to it Rik, a poem that has to be read out loud - sadness and melancholly that touches, as only a good poem can.

The dispare here makes me ask has no other suffered so? This reads as a self flagelation, trading physical pain for emotional turmoil. I can visualise you ripping the shirt off your back and throwing yourself upon a pyre of flames screeming for the fire to burn your flesh. Such anguish! It almost hurts my heart to think on this for very long. A very effective poem!
