When we were children

I think my earliest memory
Is that of playing ball
Outside my house one summer's day
Up against the wall.

It was very hot back then
It seems much cooler now
Those balmy summers been and gone
Stay out til time for chow.

My parents never worried
About where the hell i went
I had 10p for the phone box
And that was money well spent!

If i used it for the local shop
I'd get a wealth of treats
Sherbert dipdabs, candy cigs,
A plethora of sweets!

You'd get a lot more for your dosh,
Things were cheaper then.
Nostalgia's not what it used to be
When it was way back when!

I'm older now and got my own.
Kids to bring up right.
to keep them safe from fear and harm
To keep evil out of sight.

It seems to be round every bend
It really isn't funny
And that's before they even get
To asking for their money

How much for a penny sweet!?!
A game is forty quid!?
When did they stop going to parks
And being a "normal" kid?

Those days of rose tinted specs
Are well and truly faded
The idea of playing out
Is well and truly jaded.

I wonder what the kids of today
Will tell their own offspring
When they ask what they themselves
Did when xbox was king?

Will they be completely stunned
To hear about the trends
Of watching reality tv shows
Or using, what was it?, pens?

That was so 20 years ago
Get with the modern times
We do things with our virtual world
Theres never any crimes.

We don't have wars or need of help
In any foreign land
We all walk on this planet
With our hand in another's hand

We've banned junk food, we only eat
The food we grow, its true.
I think that it would be so cool
A kind of heaven, don't you?

a very thoughtfull poem here...
I smiled when I saw the word xbox :)
I liked the poems ending, we should all walk hand in hand, but will that time come? no one knows..
