Being

Keep your gods away from me
Let me be myself
I really have no interest
To sit upon some shelf.

As far as I can see
Most gods stir up wars
I wash my hands of all of them
Without a fingered pause.

Do not try to indoctrinate me
I've been healthy for so long
Being myself so happily
Has caused this soaring song...

No god creates my pleasure
I am responsive to my world
Responsible and able
To hold each moment that unfurls.

A deity may be a focus for good or ill. Psychopaths believe it is better to kill 'Unbelievers' in the hope that they will get to the front of the queue on the 'Other side'. All cultures have this necessity of belief in a creator and overseeing power. It brings cpmfort and order? I am not convinced.
For me I wish to be associated with someone who is untouched by creed and doctrine and is answerable only to her own integrity.
Holds up full glass of red and speaks the words 'Cheers Lass'.Sid.x.

I suppose, if we outlaw morphine (or opium as Karl said), many will suffer. Thankfully I have a path that keeps me from inflictions that necessitate any mind altering external impetus!! A clear mind is a wonderful thing.
Amen :-)

I love the fast pace of this poem. Its concise and to the point, and I like the humanist view, being of that ilk myself. However, I disagree with "most gods stir up wars" ; it is people who start wars, even if it is in the name of a god. :) Charlie
