Black-Eyed Susan

Call me Rudbeckia
(Becky for short)
A black-eyed susan at night
Petals luminous
Center inscrutable in the darkness

Part of a mass effect
Individually unique
Embraced in a golden sea
Spider-threads
Carry vibrations of those distant

Fractel-like,
Petals branch out
A lattice wrought for souls.

I had an Irish friend who would invite me to his home and would always say, "You're as welcome as the flowers in May."
I will look at the Black-eyed Susans differently this year.
Thank you for the glimpse of spring.
