Would-a Could-a Should-a

Would-a could-a should-a, words used after the facts
Would less come into play, if one thinks before one acts
It's easy to so engage in this fruitless guessing game
But why bother, it's too late, and so pointless to disclaim

An officer who lost his battle, because of his thoughtless blundering
What might have been, had he thought first, will ever have him wondering
To plan ahead, we all should know, is a prerequisite for winning
Just as a hurler pre-plans his pitches, to pitch a hitless inning

In striving towards a checkmate, in that grand old game of chess
The master thinks ten moves ahead to cause his rival stress
The fireman doesn't rush head on into the flaming heat
He first gives thought to all the ways this fire best be beat

A poet when he sits right down to do his very best rhyming
Reflects upon his very best ways to achieve his very best timing
The salesman doesn't barge right in when he needs to do his selling
His successful sale will most depend on the tale he will be telling

Attaining a goal is less elusive when you have your thinking cap on
There'll be less room for error and a greater chance of doing your job right on
And so it is, in all walks of life, a lesson that need be learned
Map out a plan and you will find, success is what you've earned

Forget the would-a and forget the could-a and forget the useless should-a
They're fruitless words! They're far too late! They won't do you any good-a!
