MY DAD AS A CHILD BEFORE THE N H S

When dad were a child , he were ill so bad ,

His dad , Jo , sent his oldest Mary to fetch ,

The doctor , he would not come ,

Till he were given half a crown , two and six ,

Mary ran back home crying fit to burst ,

'' DA '' , '' MOM '' , Mary dob , tears running,

''Doctor said he wont come till he's given half a crown '' ,

Jo , her father was not imprest at all ,

In fact he were bloody angry ,

But were he to do , his son David were proper porley ,

As any one could plainly see ,

Jo were out of work it were the hungry 30's ,

Both father and mother no spare money at all ,

Only money fore rent and food , money for one nay both ,

Had to be paid to the doctor first or their son would die ,

Half a crown were taken , dispatched with Mary to the doctor ,

Doctor duly paid duly went to make a house call ,

Diagnosed young David had phenomena , bad ,

Thankfully we now have the National Health Service now!

Yes, we are so lucky these days aren't we! Unfortunately, our NHS has been so abused, that we are very near to losing it. That day will come, I'm sure, and I speak as a retired NHS nurse.

The NHS maybe on its knees, but I am so glad it is still here, says an ex NHS nurse. A vivid reminder of the past Ken.

Here in the U.S. we are in the run-up to our presidential election in November, and perhaps no debate is more acrimonious and polarizing than what to do about health care. Lots of opinions and rhetoric, but few seem ready to want a NHS-type system yet . . . "socialized medicine" and the government setting medical treatment protocols aren't something most of us are comfortable with or have confidence in. Still, no doubt something needs to be done. What that something is will be a defining commentary on our culture and character.

As always, brilliant, a vivid reminder of the past,
so well put together
Maybe the the way we are going
the NHS may not last
I hope that will never happen.

I really loved the first line,
it pulled me in

As usual my friend, love
