A Lingering Look
A Lingering LookA lingering look into the past
stoked the furnace of my longing
and kindled my memory:
Again I climbed Youth's Carefree Mast
to peer landward at Life dawning,
ignorant of its brevity.
Impatiently I waited for the days to pass
—wishing the present would speed away—
but when tomorrow came at last
I yearned for yesterday.
Lighthoused on Life's Care-fraught Coast,
I recalled the transient adventure
of childhood: I watched myself at play . . .
the Blush of Youth is forever lost,
along with innocence and wonder.
With bowed head and brimming eye,
I quit my panoramic post—
goaded by the stinging prick of memory.
'Adieu child of the past,'
was my soliloquy.
