Little Boy Is a Man

We play with our children,
Great expectations of futures to be.
Play blocks at midnight,
Smile and giggle
Watch his joy.
Little Boy is going to be a man.

Take him to school
Fight the wars
Teachers who won't
Or those not allowed to teach

Challenge the status quo
So Little Boy
Can get where He has to go
Little Boy is becoming a Man.

We watch him grow
Challenging and exceeding expectations
Joyously meeting each new goal
But mom and dad are in trouble
Things are not well
Together or apart what is the best way?
Little Boy is becoming a Man

Together we stay
Little Boy is in trouble
He has lost his way
As his parents seem to have lost theirs
Mom and dad recover
Reset priorities
Little Boys in Trouble
Will he become a man?

He is angry with us because we are not happy
He is angry with himself because he is different
He is angry with teachers who don't understand
And Administrators who don't care
Little Boy is in trouble will he survive?

Therapists, prayers, nothing seem to work
What will we do?
The anger escalates
Growing up is ugly why does it have to be?
Little Boy is in trouble will He survive?

Sometimes growing u,
Experiencing the pain for themselves
Is necessary for Little Boy to grow
Being different is oka,
What is the big deal?
The anguish subsides
Mom and dad accept the differences
Little Boy is Going to Survive.

School problems subside;
The anger is there but not as volatile
Mom and dad encourage Little Boy to be his best
So he can accomplish his goals
Little Boy is growing, he will survive,

He begins to understand
What mom and dad say are not so wrong
They actually make sense, can this be?
Striving to be unique to be different
But mom and dad love him for his differences
What a special time

As time progresses, working hard to be his best
Meeting people, the desire to perform
Enjoying life
He realizes he is loved and cared for
He has nothing to be ashamed of
Little Boy is a Man
