AFTER THE BATTLE
After the battle , the dead lay awaiting burialWhile the dying awaited death
The wounded awaited the medics
Some envy the dead
Many had no obverse wounds
Looked with eyes unseeing
Minds shattered , broken , maimed
Body parts decorated the battle field
Amongst the broken equipment of war
Broken human beings
Affter the battles , no winners only loser's
An eerie silence , defining strangely the end of battle
Broken only by the vices weakly calling for mothers
And medics
Affter the battle cacophony of sounds
Birds , perched upon the broken artillery
Twirping , in song , sainly , over the field of the maddened
Survivors thats all , no heroes
Two former combatants sit side by side exchanging cigarets , water
As they look over the battlefield , one talks
'' What was that all about? ''
The other responds:
'' Recon will all be at it again tomorrow ''
'' They wont be '' the first one observed , pointing out the dead and wounded
They will rarely talk of that day's events with those who were not there
Thus it has always been so
