Once I beheld a unicorn
Who then became a swan
With dawn-tipped feathers of the morn,
Light wings like laughter she spread to fly
White as pages of Life's book eternal
Read for ages dreaming of the sky,
Once I loved the world for being born
Summer sunset visions rose
I suppose she was a unicorn,
Flying freely through the trees so blue
Lovelier were the leaves where heavens grew
Her hand in mine a path foresworn
'Til we became a swan
In dawn-tipped feathers of the morn. . .
