Lasting Impressions
On a morning painted by MatisseThey sipped strong espresso poured into etched crystal
Reviving from the evening champagne,
Lounging in a private section of the pavilion
At Grand Prix de Deauville,
The pale sky was a Roman coliseum setting the day on fire
Chariot clouds pulled by coursers of the sun
Cherry trees bloomed in rivers of light,
Planting an intricate kiss on an exposed shoulder
The perfume scent of an apricot scarf
As it falls from her hair,
Hangs in the air like a wistful dream
