Surface Level
It only changes on the surface levelWhile the endless play serves those that play
Is old as the first word and day began
Easier to ignore the exit than
Writing roles to fill the holes behind each stage
Are props from flops, abandoned Broadway fare
Resurrected from the grave where unaware
Actors go to shop for scripts, careers on a roll
Reading with papyrus lips from a dead sea scroll,
Makeup disguises the details of evil
It only changes on the surface level
