Again a work in progress. So I will be comeing back to this work.
Me , Tom , Dick and Harry
Archy , look so good in his
Khaki , uniform , wif his rifle
He looked the part
We took the piss out of Archy , true
Were, we were imprest , I 'ave to say that
The town was was buzzing about the war
Local nobs , made speeches
About serving the King , and defending the empire!
Now it were time for all true men , to stand up and be counted!
That our country was under threat!
Them Germans would do all kinds of 'orrible , nasty things to our mothers , sisters
Girl friends! not that me Tom , Dick and ' Arry , were walking out wif a girl
Me , Tom , Dick and 'Arry , went to The Pave , lovely , gorges , wimin , to ogle!
Singing , patriotic songs , the pave , woz , all decked out red white and blue
Bunting
Flags , ours the French , and plucky little Belgium
Fink there woz an Australian flag too , Canadian , I fink as well
Flags of The British Emptier , I fink The Empire* , woz goner join us in the war!
They'd be be quick of the mark , 'cos it would be over by Christmas!
France was only 25 miles from us , so we'd be there first , giving them Huns
Some stick , British steel , wear it hurts!
Me Tom , Dick and 'Arry , decided , we'd join up , do our bit!
Amazing what songs , and plenty of beer can do to a bloke!
Me Tom , Dick and 'Arry , clambered up to the stage , as invited
The woman who woz doing all the singing , and changeling us to volunteer
Would get a kiss from the lady's of the chorus line
They were smashes , lovely so they were , and only six of 'em!
Me , Tom , Dick and 'Arry , needed no second invitation!
We elbowed our way through , to get on the stage!
WE MADE IT!! , us four , wiff , others!
Them wimin , kissed us on the cheek , well more a peck!
The singer , carried on wif 'er songs , we all were shepherd out
Outside the Pave , we all gathered , formed a drunken column , rabble!
Lead by a Sargent , who'd server in South Africa , against the Bores
'' Left , Right , '' you 'orible , shower! , '' NOW! YOU ALL BELONG TO ME , AND
THE KING! ''
Me , Tom , Dick and 'Arry , grind! this goner be a lark!
We marched , well staggered past the harbor , up Military Road , a hundred years
A band struck up , playing '' It's a Long Way To Tipperary '' , that put wager as
We marched past Ramsgate Harbor
Ago , columns of Read Coasts Marched to go off to war
Me , Tom , Dick and 'Arry , had started our march to war
We passed , men and woman , we calling out to the men:
''COME ON JOIN JOIN US!!! ''
To the wimin , we called out to 'em '' '' give '' , '' us a kiss and cuddle! ''
Some did others gave look of disapproval! Some looked sadly at us
As we marched , well staggered up Military Road , some of those we passed
Came up to us , gave us bottles of beer , men joined the column
We duly arivde at Government Acre
First camp , before , going to hell!
When we sobered up , we were goner wish we'd staid ever drunk! we were goner
Experience in the years to come our way
We were age 17 , 18 , 19 and 20
