THE MOTHER AND QUEEN MARY* (WW1 Related)

Queen Mary , on meeting

On being informed five son's

Of the mother had perished in the war

Queen Mary said to the mother

'' Thank you fore your sacrifice ''

The mother , her eyes , a hard look showing

'' Madam '' , '' I did not give my sons up to be sacrificed! ''

With that , the mother turned on her heels and walked away

Leaving Queen Mary speechless

I am afraid I would have said the same thing.
I think it would be the strange mother who would be proud of a son's sacrifice in war. At least, I don't understand the concept and I know I would not be happy to receive such news, nor proud that my son gave his life for the Queen or any King.
I would always be in awe of the boy's courage and possibly his
misguided patriotism.
