THE ELEVENTH OF THE ELEVENTH (WORLD WAR RELATED)

As I walk down king street towards bottom
I saw the crowded gathering , I could see a flag
I know the god bother bothers would be there
Not an experience I favad to experience this day

Speechifying of the greater glory so many died for
For God , King and now Queen , the greater glory of God (sick)!
NINE HUNDRED and EIGHT THOUSAND of the British and Empire died
TWO MILLION PLUS WOUNDED
Many of the wounded succumb to their
How many suffered shell shock - P T S , ended there life own hand delivered
Or in psychiatric hospital - the Mad House - THE Funny Farm
Will never be known

I went in to a shop , so I'd not stand with The Crowd with THE GOD BOTHERS
THE DEVIL DOGES

All were quiet , shoppers , staff , thinking remembering stood in silence
Contemplating
The sound of the last post sounded , loud and clear
Prays for dead followed
Anger with in me weld up
I'd seen the graves in France and Belgium
The dead soldiers laid neatly out in ranks

I SAW NO GLORY there

Well said Ken, I'm glad you make me think, war is brutal in so many ways. Your last verse made me think even more.

Excellent write, Ken!

I am saddened to no end by all those young lives given for what they honestly thought was god and country, while the reality is glory for those arrogant leaders who send them out to die without mercy for their own glory. I honor their deaths, but not the cause.
I am glad you have the courage to write this.
