Do try and spend just one day on the Downs

The Sussex Downs

The Sussex Downs
Her white face looks out to sea
She sleeps in the chill night air
A billion pebbles at her side, chestnut horses gallop home
Latches on tavern doors click, beer is served
Lambs snuggle and sleep
A starlit sky keeps watch on the Sussex Downs
Moonshine shadows
Foxes lay in wait
Sunrise strokes the chalky peeks
Blue butterfly's dip and dive the grassy dell
Farmers under yokes
Children laugh and slide the Long Mans leg
Dogs bark, bite and chase
On the Sussex Downs
Sea winds brush old Alfriston Church
Rain drenched grave stones
Sparkle sunbeams
On the Sussex Downs

I once went on holiday to the Sussex Downs, many years ago - goodness, nearly thirty years ago - it is beautiful and the sleepy villages and scenery - I still have a mug that my father bought me in a gift shop with my name on it - brought a nearly forgotten memory back, thank you
