As I lie dying

The shakes.
Trembling hand.
Quivered chin.
That lying honest, horrible feeling.

The thought of giving in...
You did it.
You hurt the one whom you love.
She has not broken... completely.

She still loves him.
As she has always promised.
Turning her head, she sees.
What is beheld is the curse of a spell.

"Return to me, my love"
She pleas with desperation.
She called for you...
To come up out of darkness...

And so you came.
Excuse me, dear reader,
While I wish in vain...

Great title and a great piece. The aside at the end gives the reader an "oh yeah" moment :)

First of all I was attracted by the mournful title the same as Mr. Faulkner's book, and as I read an equally mournful poem that does credit to its title. Very well done, Sarah.
