(For those who mourn).
Gray light suffuses the sentinel cemetery trees
Faces back-lit half-cast by the swirling shadowverse
As the rain fell like years drenching clothes to the bone,
Blackbirds stood on movie-set shivering wet branches
Talking like bit-part character actors in some obscure off Broadway play
Out on the roadway a moving van parked, engine idling, waiting
For a woman with a secret map marked, "Routes Unknown"
You turned to me just as last rites echoed into an eternal vacuum,
Like two lovers embracing, we said our good-byes .

Good-Byes In The Rain
Standing like breathing statues at a burialGray light suffuses the sentinel cemetery trees
Faces back-lit half-cast by the swirling shadowverse
As the rain fell like years drenching clothes to the bone,
Blackbirds stood on movie-set shivering wet branches
Talking like bit-part character actors in some obscure off Broadway play
Out on the roadway a moving van parked, engine idling, waiting
For a woman with a secret map marked, "Routes Unknown"

Like two lovers embracing, we said our good-byes .
