THE TURN OF THE TIDE (with thanks to White Swan Darkening work)

As the seasons change - Autumn to Winter
Stood on the cliff top - mind thinks
Of what was - what is - what maybe
Nights come all the sooner - nights are longer
Days so short - has if never been at all
Mind brood's - thinking heavy thoughts
Looking out to sea - hearing the waives
Sounds - voices in the air - thinking a name is called
Maybe it's your name - Look around - but no one to be seen
Waives pick up - larger and larger - crashing on the beech
When the beech is submerge by the sea - waives crash in to the cliff face
In front - below the cliff top - where he's standing - further down apart of
Cliff - cracks - lumps of chalk - sent down below - crashing - SPLASH!
Later come spring - a much lager cliff slip will happen - as sure as one day
Replaces the other one gone

The storm - wind - blows - almost lifting him off his feet
Collar of coat held tight - hand holds hat on - fear of the hat being taken off
By the wind - a realty of fear! He'd had his Akubra a while - got rather attached
Not going to loose it now!

To the right is the east pier - made of stone blocks
Built three hundred years ago - survived two hurricanes
Countless gale's - only breached the once - that can be remembered
The waives crashing against the pier - the stones rock to and throw
But remain in place all the same - has the have for three hundred years
Apart from that one time!
The tide will turn - and the quiet will return
The mind will be thinking on and on all the same

Nice piece Ken. The cliffs are slowly being taken away. Glad you didn't lose your Akubra hat. It might have floated all the way back to Aussieland :)
