Two Alone
I kissed you last nightIn my dreams
And you kissed me
With warmth, and sadness
And compassion and loss
Understanding that together
We could look at the abyss
Feel the abyss, contemplate it
But not get drawn in.
That was a dream.
When I see you again
You will look into my eyes
And smile that smile
Yet hold me at arms length
With an invisible wall,
Protecting yourself;
You will smile and say,
"I'd love to
"But I can't today,
"I'm too busy today"
As you have
So many times before.
And I'm just another customer
And we're both
Still lost and alone.
