WHILE AT SCHOOL I WROTE A STORY (a work in progres)

While at school in 1965 I wrote a story about my dads father and WW1
Teacher was rather impressed by my work - he askde me to write poetry
On war '' Mr.Evens'' , '' Sir '' , ''how can I write on war? '' , '' something''
'' I never ? '' , '' something I only hope I never will! ''
I have long since - wrote such work - as yet I've never experienced war - read a a lot
Listened to those who have - watched many documentary 's - my imagination
My only limit - BUT - none of them - can really - empower me - me to write
On such a subject - I can only do the best I can.

yes, that's all you can do. But the more you learn of it the more you are able to empathize and maybe imagine how bad it was. Like actors who play famous people you can only do your best and try not to get it totally wrong.

I think that you're right, Ken. You can imagine a lot of things that you haven't done, but I doubt that you can imagine the intensity of being part of a war. I'm sure that I can't.

To write about war is to write against the better self ... how can anyone do that?
