Ocean Between Us

There is an ocean between us my friend
A sea so wide so wild yet calm, so deep and blue
There is a world gone by, the countless lives we lived alone
Searching for another home, a balm, the philosopher stone,
Together in this strange harmony we are apart as we touch
On an island created by only thoughts and the muses we made
What worlds are these, what penalties to trade?
Our own elation drowns to swim in this Love
Monsters lurking in our sleep, heavens above,
Too early to awaken is this our deep end?
There is an ocean between us my friend . . .

This poem has haunted me since I first read it. It is so beautiful and heartfelt. Living across the ocean from so much I have loved, I can relate completely. Distance, whether real or metaphorical is expressed in this poem brilliantly.

Very nicely done. Some times this is how I feel with certain people. I live on the island (which are my feelings) and those people are totally somewhere else

Sometimes I walk to the end of the road where I live and there I can see the lights on the other islands - best seen at twilight on a winters night - all those lives and mine and if I stretched my hand I could be with them :-)
