Shovelful

“Is it okay if I leave my shovel on the stoop?”

He fixes his blue eyes on mine, smiling brilliantly;

“You can do anything you want,” he says

Without the faintest hint of suggestion;

Yet, his words beg examination

And examine them though I might

I’m still not any closer to an answer.

An open answer indeed. Strange how we examine conversations looking for signs of possibilities.

Why is it that so many things that people say leave us in this situation? This is fun, nicely written poem.

Maybe , the smile - is the answer - in the blue eyes - a questan -
A plea

What a perfectly vague and loaded answer from blue eyes. Just enough--or in.your own words, a shovelful:-)

I can only agree with others here, its demure quaintness speaks in a large voice.

one trick pony The PoetBay support member heart!
this is rather a huge poem, are we talking about our existential nature, free will, permission, pleasant conversation, or something slightly, or more than slightly, personal?

in the end it becomes a judgment call, and maybe a willingness to take a risk to find out.

anyway, i guess it snowed.

What a terrific little commentary on the perpetual riddle in even the simplest interactions. I can't figure anybody out. The title "shovelful" is perfect.
