With A Smile

She is leaving in a moment
Forgetting everything with a smile
Do not ask for a bouquet of purple forget-me-nots
Just tie your empty fingers into knots instead,
Perhaps there is something stirring in the origami forest there she left
Pet tigers in the attic, the reply is automatically corrected as you speak
Break into broken song, scattered fragmentary dreaming peaks of longing lost
Lines were written, scorched li[ps bitten quickly back by gum
Sum total of desert tears
Going away as it nears
Taking pleasure in the torment
She is leaving in a moment
Forgetting everything
With, a smile . . .
