Wounded Tom

You’re like a feral cat

Feeling trapped

But needing love and affection

To be cared for

To be touched

I have to reach out

Reaching with one finger

Oh so slowly

To gain your trust

Not validate your terror

And maybe I’ll succeed

And maybe you’ll attack

Or run.

this and "PicassO" are exceptionally fine poems. you portrayed the distance between two people, two beings, so well, a matter of reaching out, of wariness, of willingness. it can be so easy, or so hard. we know Tom is wounded and cautious, even afraid. it takes time. be patient. but, you know this, you wrote it.
