Water Lilies

Unattainable, they float like death traps,
inconceivable in beauty in their irresistibility
as magic elements of calm in the dark water
tempting you to swim and catch them
to be caught yourself in intertwining webs
to drag you down and hold you captive
unto suffocation in dark drowning death;
but there's a fragrance of eternity about them
as they are related to the Lotus and the very origin of flowers
many hundred million years ago and out of timelessness.

That was my first remark on my revisit
at your place for the first time in thirty years,
that there were water lilies in your lake
to greet me and to capture me in beauty
as the dominating element of your whole world.
Let water lilies be the sign of our renewed relationship
of intertwining kindred souls of long endurance
out of many crises, fates, experiences and dire tragedies.
