Broken blossoms

Flowers are for growing free,
for bringing beauty to our fields and gardens
and to bring life and colour to our parks;
but why then has man this obsession
for picking them and killing them?
They will not live for long in vases,
they will wither quickly, like canary birds in cages,
and picked flowers are just like caged animals,
victims of the cruelty and ignorance of man
and doomed to languish in a long protracted death
of famine, lack of freedom and imprisonment.
It may seem funny to consider animals and flowers thus,
like human people, but they are,
and so are trees, which man has an obsession to cut down
and kill, instead of leaving them alone
and granting them the right of life and freedom.
Gardeners are well aware of this
necessity of cultivating life instead of killing it;
but man was born inhuman and the beastliest of animals
with a latent and intentional premeditated cruelty
so infinitely more unnatural than any animal atrocity
resorting to the killing action only to survive.

Reading your poem I remember a quote by Osho.

"If you love a flower, don't pick it up.
Because if you pick it up it dies and it ceases to be what you love.
So if you love a flower, let it be.
Love is not about possession.
Love is about appreciation."

Nice poem!

As Ken says, flowers should remain where they grow so all can enjoy and I feel so sad if a tree I know is cut down for whatever reason. Us humans have a lot to answer for.

Bravo! Indeed, flowers are far better, viewed where they are growing!
