The Failure of Angels
The abuse of the planet by mankind
cost God much concern and atrocious headaches,
so he actually thought of resigning
and leaving it all over to Satan,
who was keen to take over.
Some angels decided to act against this
and went up to the sorely depressed God Almighty,
suggesting that they should cheer up all humanity
by finding out and promoting good qualities.
"If you find any good qualities at all, you are better than I,
and I wish you good luck, hoping for your success after all."
First went the good angel of mercy,
trying to find some compassion and good will
still working somewhat among mankind,
but she found only cruelty, egoism and ruthlessness
drowning all possible mercy and good will,
so she returned quite disheartened.
Next went the angel of good cheer and humour,
hoping to find still some happiness in mortal beings,
but she found but suicides, depression and criminality,
all parties derailing to abuse and debauchery
and ending up in addiction,
so she also had to resign with her mission failed.
Then went the angel of health and good fortune,
hoping to find some progress in welfare states at least,
but she found only welfare illnesses like cancer,
diabetes, fatness and degeneration
and on the other hand starvation, capitalistic abuse,
extortion and greed and overwhelming poverty.
"It's worse than I thought could be possible," was the conclusion.
Next went the angel of spirituality, hoping to find some enlightenment,
but all she found was religious abuse, pedophilia,
religion turned into business and fanaticism,
certain religions still killing for intolerance.
Only one angel remained who was still willing to try.
"Well, go in your naïve illusions, then,
but don't hope to find anything," God dejectedly said.
She went, but she found what she searched for almost everywhere.
She was the angel of music, and wherever she went there was some kind of music.
Returning to God, she said: "People are still actually singing."
God turning to Satan said: "Sorry, old friend, but you are out of business.
Our last angel actually found something good in mankind,
and that one thing will save all humanity."
Satan had already anticipated his ultimate victory
and wondered bewildered: "Whatever could that thing have been?"
God answered: "Already Orpheus knew, that not even the dead
could resist being saved and awakened by music."
