Fondling memories
What are they for,
all those sweet memories of yore,
that always keep pursuing you
and never leave you quite alone,
the perfumes of forgotten pleasures,
silenced voices that you keep on hearing,
dreams of beauty and intimacy
that never quite materialized,
the songs that never could be silenced,
and the deaths that never were convincing;
all the laughs that sparkled for eternity,
the warmth of tenderness and feelings of eternal love,
what are they for, if not to be maintained and cherished,
cultivated and enriched to never cease in glowing splendour;
to be proven, like ourselves, immortal
in the truth of their sincerity and genuineness.
