This one is for a friend me and my wife met while she was have her chemo, his name is Les and he sadly passed last week. We only met a few times but when I was writing this it felt he was giving me the words, RIP Les and win the race.

Chequered Flag

How many finish lines have I've crossed?
How many chequered flags have been waved?
How many tracks have I been round?
Along life's path that I paved

Adrenaline filled tears fall from my eyes
Through the wind smashing into my face
The roar of the engine, my foot to the floor
I was getting to grips with the race

But now I've passed the finish line
First place was never in doubt
Number 50 has come to a stop
So now it's my time to get out.

And behold, a new track before me
One I've never seen before
You'll hear me thundering round at lightning speed
Once again with my foot to the floor

And I see some familiar faces
As I'm flying down the main drag
All there cheering me on
To another chequered flag

But for now my precious angel
I can see the tears that you cry
You just need to remember
That I'm there by your side

Now to all my family
Help each other on the day
And as above, just you remember
That I'm never far away.
