An old country custom, to tell the bees of any death in a household.

Death of an Apiarist

Go, and tell the bees.

Go, and take his keys.

Tap them on the hives;

tell them he has died;

lest they should leave;

still being as it should be,

their honey still supplied,

so go and tell the bees.

Just like 'shells' I hadn't heard this one before either. Just goes to show that you are never too old to learn. Thank you for sharing, Dougie. Blessings and love, Allen

shells
I've heard of the custom, though not the tapping of the keys. Bees are fascinating creatures, a lovely informative piece.
