We are 'doing' Stevie Smith in our poetry group, and I like her poetry. This is my homage to her style, inspired by her 'God and the Devil'.

The Devil Walked Out

The Devil and a friend
Walked out one day,
And along the way
They saw a man ahead stoop
To pick up a piece of the truth.
The friend smiled to say:
“This is not for you a good day”.
“Not so”, replied the Devil;
“I’ll let him keep it close,
Then when he gets religiose,
I’ll let him organise it”.

Thanks Ray, but that won't work, line ten rhymes with line nine, with line eleven having a half rhyme between religiose and organise; and to get another rhyme would require an extra line, to no useful purpose. Having said that I did dash it off last night over my second scotch!

Ray Miller
Enjoyed the poem, though it feels like something should be rhyming with "organise it".
