Lou Reed (1943-2013)

a poem for Lou

this has been too long
too long acoming, friend

I remember you first
when playing pool
in a student dive
we stopped
stunned
hearing the Walk
for the first time

your poetry
on the wildside
shuck
those willing
to enter it

too much, too much to say

I last saw you
with Antony and Laurie
some gashes are just too deep
to cross alone

keep writing somewhere, my friend
there will still be many ears waiting
on unperfect days

A fabulous tribute, I love his voice and Walk on the Wild Side reminds me of good times back in the day. The final stanza made me smile, in a good way.

A fine piece. I like the honesty and the way you have given the reader an insight into your relationship with Lou. "Keep writing somewhere, my friend" is probably the nicest thing to say in memorium to a poet.
Blessings, Allen
PS: We don't see enough of you. :)
