[block 61]

In a jail cell at Nashua Street
on Mother's Day weekend 2003,
I diverted myself from my circumstances
by reading the 1928 Book of Common Prayer
and the entertaining graffiti of previous inmates
through which I learned that Egleston Square
has "some good no-tellin' [brothas]."

You 'gotta' smile, even though incarceration for any period is very dispiriting. I'm pleased to know that you write your fine poetry from another place.
