58. In waiting
I can't believe that it is real,
that you are coming home to me,
but for how long this time?
What limitation do you grant me for thy keeping?
Will you escape again out of my hands
for new adventures with your friends,
for me just foreigners and strangers?
I am bound to you in love and at your mercy,
you will lead our dance, and I will just join in,
obey thy lead, adapt myself and sing thy tune
as an accompanist to your impeccability
and listen carefully to every hint you make
so that I never may step on your toe
in the delicacy of our pas-de-deux of love.
