Springs Gentle Offering ~A co-write with Thomas Perdue~

When at last love floats on the air
Spring has unlocked its internal doors
For only you deserve its offering
Rewards are given; the first day of spring

For the first gift, a ruby presented by Prince Charming...
A bright ruby... But I looked and beheld,
The strings of thy hair art far more red than that gift...
All thine features art far more fair than
What nature or man may offer unto thee...
What then can be offered to you?
A rose... One single perfect rose...
It is not near as fair as thee,
But this do I offer unto you as a gift
Of the first day of spring...
A gift of nature exceeds all other gifts...

The second gift, a flashlight
A sign of hope in the darkness ahead
Yet does not define you, my infinite hope
Just your presence enlightens thee
The lighthouse in the storm of life
Refuge is right with you in my corner
So in return I offer you Spring
A time of rebirth and rejoice

And then I looked and beheld a third man approach with a gift.
His was a golden pen embedded with diamonds...
And many inspired words did he write unto thee...
It was all of the book with no feeling...
"What is love?" I should ask...
He could not answer...
Love is not in the book.
Love is not a bunch of romantic poetic verses
It is in the heart and in the heart it shall remain...
Love requires one statement, "I love you..."
And the poet realizes how much that really says.
More than all empty poetic phrases can offer...
Love is poetry, not poetry love...

Was Spring truly infinitely giving
She was the one I constantly desired
With eyes as dark as the moon
And hair like winter wheat
Voice like heavenly angels
Spring has given many graces
This was no different
I awaited to see what the incarnation
Had to offer the world and me
Like a light in the abyssal darkness
This held meaning and purpose

I looked at all the gifts offered unto you...
They had no effect on you.
You sat upon your thrown of spring
As bored as could be.
I could see it in your eyes...
Those eyes! I could stand and stare
At them all day! But perhaps I should offer my gift?
All the other gifts do wilt
Like the age of time, they shall all wilt...
What about my gift? What I thought to offer unto you?
Will not a rose also wilt with time?
Of course but... I must offer this!
And with love it does melt the heart
Picked by my hand, it is as precious to you
As you are to me...
And I am to you as you are to me...
Of all the gifts that spring does offer,
Love is the greatest.
