Roman Journey: Scene Seven
gianicolo
the sunis sending
long
enfolding
shadows
over lovers
on the wall
beneath the trees
on marble seats
the city is
basked
in clear
gentle
failing
light
as Tiber
flows
its green
lined path
from
Prati to
Trastevere
alone
a woman
a young woman
a dark woman
is distressed
she
stands
hopefully
hopingly
hopelessly
shouting
down
to the
gaol
below
this evening
as lovers
love
her grief
is intense
solitary
unexplained
unrelieved
anguished
without peer
as sun
sets upon
the gianicolo
hill
