The images of ordinary people, like you and me, line the walls of the Museum of the Jewish Community in Vilnius. These people all resisted oppression and often paid dearly with their lives. On face value, very unexceptional people.

faces

dark
fair
gentle
rough
naïve
sceptical
bitter
sweet
leering
loving
friendly
hostile
brave
bravura
christian
jewish
agnostic
atheist
female
male
beautiful
handsome
ordinary
plain
faces of
those united
in one thing:
resistance.

Some people
say they
could not say
what they
would have
done against
such tyranny.

That is true.

But is there
really any choice
for
if not now,
when?
