The Sea
The first of challenges against my life
was water, which I battled with
courageously against all odds,
failing to get drowned three times
although I did the best I could
in my association with the wildest element
acquiring a sound relationship with it,
so that I never was afraid of giant ocean waves,
the rolling mountains of ferocious foaming fury,
which I just regarded as my friends,
the more imposing and forbidding, the more lovely.
I remained a faithful lover of the sea
thus all my life, and there I might return some day,
to that first battle as a child with death
wherein we might unite one day forever.
